Lionel Messi secured a last-minute equalizer in stoppage time, salvaging a 1-1 draw for Inter Miami against the Los Angeles Galaxy in Sunday’s Major League Soccer match.
Despite the Galaxy’s dominance throughout much of the game, Inter Miami managed to hold on, with Serbian striker Dejan Joveljic putting the home team ahead in the 75th minute.
However, the Galaxy ended the match with ten players after midfielder Mark Delgado was shown a second yellow card in the 87th minute.
Jordi Alba set up Messi’s crucial goal with a precise pass from the left, allowing Messi to find the target with his left foot, stretching to reach the ball.
While Miami struggled to keep up with the Galaxy’s pace, they fielded a team with seven starters aged over 30, including former Barcelona players Alba, Sergio Busquets, Luis Suarez, and Messi.
Despite the presence of Barcelona alumni on both sides, it was the Galaxy’s Riqui Puig who stood out, particularly in the first half, controlling the game with his confident dribbling and incisive passing.
However, Puig missed a golden opportunity to put the Galaxy ahead in the 13th minute from the penalty spot, with Miami’s goalkeeper Drake Callender making a crucial save.
Despite some notable saves from Callender, Miami struggled to create opportunities, with Busquets and Suarez appearing out of form and Messi receiving little support.
