Reps Ask JAMB To Extend UTME Registration By Two Weeks

The House of Representatives has instructed the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to prolong the registration period for the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination by two weeks. This decision came after a motion titled “Need to extend UTME registration by JAMB,” sponsored by Hassan Shinkafi, was adopted during Thursday’s plenary session in Abuja. Shinkafi highlighted the economic challenges faced by many families, which prevented them from registering their children within the initial timeframe of January 15 to February 26, 2024.

He emphasized that without an extension, numerous candidates would be unable to register, resulting in limited coverage and participation in this year’s UTME. Shinkafi urged lawmakers to intervene, stating that an extension would facilitate registration for students from less privileged backgrounds.

The House further directed JAMB to extend the registration period and mandated the relevant committees on Education and Legislative Compliance to ensure strict adherence to this directive.
