The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) forecasts hazy and thundery weather conditions nationwide from Sunday to Tuesday. NiMet’s weather outlook, issued in Abuja on Saturday, predicts dust haze in the Northern region during this period, alongside thunderstorms in parts of Taraba and Kaduna states during the afternoon and evening.
Additionally, the North Central region is expected to experience a sunny atmosphere with scattered clouds, along with the possibility of thunderstorms in areas of Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, and the Federal Capital Territory during the afternoon and evening.
“Cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine are expected over the inland states and the coastal cities of the South with prospects of morning thunderstorms over parts of Lagos state.
“Later in the day, thunderstorms are envisaged over parts of Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo, Edo, Abia, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River during the afternoon and evening period,” it said.
The agency expected sunny skies and a hazy atmosphere across the Northern region on Monday throughout the forecast period. In the North Central cities, a sunny atmosphere with scattered clouds was anticipated, along with the possibility of isolated thunderstorms in parts of Niger, Kwara, Kogi, and Benue during the forecast period.
Inland states and coastal cities of the South were predicted to experience a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine during the morning hours. Later in the day, NiMet forecasted thunderstorms over parts of Ondo, Ekiti, Ogun, Osun, Edo, Ebonyi, Abia, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers.
” For Tuesday, Cloudy skies with sunshine intervals are expected over the Northern region during the
duration of the forecast period with chances of thunderstorms over parts of Gombe, Kebbi, Kaduna and Taraba during the afternoon and evening period.
“Sunny atmosphere with patches of clouds are anticipated over the North Central cities throughout the forecast period with chances of thunderstorms over most places during the afternoon and evening period.
“Cloudy atmosphere with spells of sunshine are expected over the inland states and coastal cites of the South with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Bayelsa, Rivers and Edo during the morning hours.
” Later in the day, thunderstorms are anticipated over most places during the afternoon and evening period,” it said.
The agency advised the public to take necessary precautions, as strong winds may precede the onset of rain in areas prone to thunderstorms. NiMet also highlighted that temperatures remain high, particularly in the North, emphasizing the importance of staying hydrated.
Additionally, individuals with respiratory issues were cautioned to be mindful of the prevailing weather conditions and to stay hydrated due to the elevated temperatures, especially in the North. Furthermore, NiMet recommended that airline operators obtain updated weather reports and forecasts from its office for effective planning in their operations.
