FRSC Declares Nationwide War Against Overloading, Night Trips

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has instructed its Commanding Officers to intensify nationwide enforcement against vehicle overloading and night travel. Additionally, the corps announced plans to collaborate with stakeholders to raise awareness about the risks involved in these practices.

FRSC Corps Marshal Dauda Ali-Biu issued the directive, emphasizing the necessity for action following two fatal crashes on Monday that claimed the lives of 17 people.

These incidents occurred at Tashar Yari village along Zaria-Kano Expressway in Kaduna State and near Fire Service Academy along Yangoji-Gwagwalada expressway in the FCT. One crash involved a trailer overloaded with grains and passengers, resulting in 12 fatalities and multiple injuries.

The other incident, where a speeding J5 bus collided with a stationary trailer and caught fire, resulted in five fatalities. Ali-Biu condemned the prevalence of accidents due to night travel, overloading, and violation of speed limits, citing poor visibility, fatigue, speed, and delayed response as associated dangers.

Additionally, the corps marshal recognized the appointment of Muhammed Kabo as Deputy Corps Marshal representing the North East and decorated six Assistant Corps Marshals promoted in the 2023 exercise.
