Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, emphasized on Tuesday that entrepreneurship and skill acquisition are essential for generating wealth in a nation grappling with unemployment and economic difficulties.
The Governor made this statement during a meeting at Government House, Asaba, with the State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr. Alao Olusegun, and his team. Expressing gratitude for the NYSC’s role in the state’s progress, Governor Oborevwori assured that the state government would review all requests from the State Coordinator and explore avenues for governmental assistance.
He commended the Delta NYSC for its entrepreneurship drive saying: “the good thing about the NYSC in Delta State is that they are always involved in entrepreneurship programmes and we continue to see how we can partner together.
“I want to assure you that in Delta State, one of our more agenda is to ensure peace and security and I can assure you that we will continue to sustain that peace which we have enjoyed in the last nine months of this administration.
“When we have our entrepreneurship programmes we will also invite you to add value because entrepreneurship is very key to wealth creation.
“I say this because when they finish as graduates and there are no jobs, it is the skill they are able to acquire that will keep them going pending when they get a suitable job.
“It is not easy now to get white collar jobs so entrepreneurship is very key to the survival of our youths.”
In his earlier statements, Mr. Olusegun expressed gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for the impressive developments at the NYSC Permanent Camp in Issele-Uku, hailing it as among the nation’s finest. He extended congratulations to Governor Oborevwori on his electoral triumph and success at the Supreme Court.
Mr. Olusegun highlighted the significant presence of over 15,000 corps members serving in various capacities across the state, emphasizing their contributions to sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and numerous other areas of the state’s economy.
