The Delta State government has affirmed its dedication to enacting policies aimed at enhancing public health and preventive healthcare. Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, the State Commissioner for Health, conveyed this message to the people of Delta State as part of the activities marking the 2024 World Health Day.
He said: “The Delta State Ministry of Health understands the importance of prioritising health as a basic human right.
“This government is committed to ensuring that every citizen has access to quality healthcare services without discrimination. We have been working tirelessly to position the One Health approach as a major strategy along with other high impact interventions.”
He revealed that the state government, in efforts to enhance healthcare delivery and tackle the scarcity of medical staff in public hospitals caused by brain drain, had recently initiated the recruitment and placement of additional healthcare professionals, including doctors and nurses, across the 66 secondary health facilities within the state.
Noting that the process for recruitment of other cadre of health personnel was almost completed, Onojaeme said: “Furthermore, we have procured and distributed hospital equipment across both Secondary and Primary Health Care facilities, enhanced skills by building the capacity of health care workers across the state.”
