NiMet Predicts 3-Day Sunshine, Thunderstorms

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) anticipates a mix of sunshine and thunderstorms from Thursday to Saturday nationwide. NiMet’s weather forecast, issued in Abuja on Wednesday, projects clear skies in Northern cities on Thursday, followed by possible afternoon and evening thunderstorms in parts of Taraba state.

NiMet further predicts sunny conditions with scattered thunderstorms expected later in the day over portions of Benue State.

“The southern region is expected to be cloudy with spells of sunshine during the morning period.

“The afternoon/evening periods hold better prospects of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Ogun, Imo, Oyo, Ondo, Edo, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Rivers, Lagos, and Bayelsa states,“ it said.

The agency expects clear skies on Friday across the Northern states, with the possibility of isolated thunderstorms in parts of Adamawa and Taraba states in the afternoon and evening. NiMet indicates that the north-central region will experience sunny conditions with some clouds in the morning, while isolated thunderstorms are anticipated over portions of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, and Kogi states later in the day. For the South, NiMet forecasts a cloudy morning with intervals of sunshine over inland and coastal areas, but isolated thunderstorms are expected over parts of Osun, Ondo, Imo, Enugu, Abia, Edo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, Rivers, and Bayelsa states in the afternoon and evening. On Saturday, NiMet predicts sunny skies in the morning for the Northern region, with chances of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Adamawa, Taraba, and southern Kaduna states later in the day.

“Sunny skies with patches of clouds are expected over North Central region, with chances of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Kwara, Plateau, Kogi, Nasarawa, Benue State, and FCT during afternoon and evening periods.

“Cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine is expected over the inland and coastal areas of the South, with chances of thunderstorms over parts of Edo, Delta, Cross River, and Bayelsa during the morning hours.

“The afternoon/evening period holds better prospects of isolated thunderstorms over Imo, Enugu, Abia, Edo, Osun, Oyo, Ondo, Cross River, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Delta, and Bayelsa states,“ it said.

NiMet advised the public to take necessary precautions as strong winds could precede thunderstorms in areas prone to rainfall. It also recommended that airline operators stay informed by obtaining updated weather reports and forecasts from NiMet to ensure effective planning for their operations.
