PDP Crisis: Damagum Remains As Chairman As Leadership Change Not On NEC Agenda

Following much speculation regarding a potential leadership transition within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), it has been officially announced that the matter will not be addressed during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for 2:00 pm.

It was indicated that supporters of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, were optimistic about Amb. Umar Damagum potentially remaining as Acting National Chairman.

Decisions regarding the agenda for the NEC meeting are typically made by the 52-member national caucus of the party.

Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, confirmed this during a press briefing following the conclusion of the party’s Caucus meeting in the early hours of Thursday.

Ologunagba said, “NEC meeting will not discuss any change in leaders, rather attention is focussed on unity and reconciliation

“Caucus agreed that all congresses in the states and local government should be concluded between June and August this year.

“Caucus agreed on the extension of the constitution review committee of the party to accept new recommendations.”
