The EFCC has apprehended Hadi Sirika, the former Minister of Aviation under President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged money laundering amounting to N8 billion related to Nigeria Air.

Sirika was detained by EFCC investigators following his arrival at the agency’s Federal Capital Territory Command on Tuesday afternoon.

The interrogation focuses on purportedly fraudulent contracts awarded to Engirios Nigeria Limited, a company owned by his younger sibling, Abubakar Sirika.

This comes after an earlier probe in February into the Aviation Ministry’s activities during Sirika’s tenure, which encompassed accusations of conspiracy, abuse of office, diversion of public funds, contract inflation, criminal breaches of trust, and money laundering totaling N8,069,176,864.

Abubakar Sirika, listed as the company’s Managing Director and sole signatory to its bank accounts, has also been detained by the commission regarding payments amounting to N3,212,258,930.18 made to his company without evidence of corresponding work completed.

Sirika was initially arrested on February 4 to aid the EFCC’s investigation into the Aviation Ministry’s financial transactions during his term in office.
