According to British media, Liverpool and Feyenoord reached an agreement on Friday for Arne Slot to take over from Jurgen Klopp as manager. The Press Association reported that a compensation package for the 45-year-old, with two years remaining on his contract, has been finalized.

The BBC stated that the deal is valued at up to £9.4 million (10.9 million euros). Slot expressed confidence on Thursday about securing the position at Anfield.

“I would like to go to Liverpool. Now I’m waiting to see whether the clubs reach an agreement. I’m very confident in that,” he told reporters.

In 2021, Slot transitioned to Feyenoord after making a mark in his initial managerial stint at AZ Alkmaar.

During his first season, he guided the Dutch giants to the inaugural Europa Conference League final, where they narrowly fell 1-0 to Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

Subsequently, Slot secured only the second league title in 24 years for De Kuip before signing a new three-year contract. Klopp will conclude his nine-year tenure at the end of this season, during which Liverpool clinched the Champions League title in 2019 and the Premier League trophy the following year.

“I like the way his team plays football. If he is the one, I like that he wants it,” Klopp told reporters on Friday when asked to highlight Slot’s qualities.

“I don’t know him, but some people who know him say he’s a good guy. I like that a lot. So good coach, good guy. Looking forward for the club, if he is the solution, if he is the man, I’m more than happy.

“It’s the best job in the world, best club in the world. Great job, great team, fantastic people. A really interesting job.”

Feyenoord currently holds the second position in the Eredivisie standings, trailing league leaders PSV Eindhoven by nine points. Slot would consider it disappointing if his team fails to secure the Dutch title, echoing Klopp’s frustration with Liverpool’s own struggling title campaign.

Liverpool sits in third place in the Premier League, trailing leaders Arsenal by three points and second-placed Manchester City by two. City holds a game in hand over both Arsenal and Liverpool, and recent defeats against Crystal Palace and Everton appear to have dashed Liverpool’s chances.
