The political confrontation between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Rivers State House of Assembly continues unabated, with the House challenging the governor over the state’s Public Procurement Law.

During Monday’s session, Speaker Martin Amaewhule accused the governor of financial misconduct, citing irresponsible and unauthorized spending.

Among the day’s agenda was the House’s criticism of the governor’s financial management, particularly regarding the handling of state finances.

Deputy Speaker Dumle Maol urged his colleagues to override the governor’s decision on the state public procurement amendment bill.

The delayed payment of March salaries to Emohua Local Government staff was a significant concern.

The Speaker confirmed the passage of the second reading of the Rivers State Public Procurement Amendment Bill 2024 with a gavel strike.

This event marks the latest development in the ongoing political conflict between Governor Fubara and the House of Assembly.

This recent veto adds to the five previous instances where the Assembly has overridden the governor’s decisions to pass laws.

In April, the Rivers State House of Assembly bypassed Governor Fubara and amended the Rivers State Local Government Law.
