On Friday, Nigerians on social media were amazed when Deeper Life High School revealed that a total of 174 students from its campuses nationwide had achieved scores of 300 and above in the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
The school shared the achievement via its official Facebook handle, @Deeper Life High School.
“Despite JAMB’s announcement that only around 0.5% of candidates nationwide scored 300 and above in the 2024 UTME, an astounding one hundred and seventy-four (174) students of DLHS exceeded expectations with flying colours by scoring 300 and above,” the school said in the post.
As per the details shared on the school’s Facebook page, Ayeyemi Godsgift Ibukunoluwa emerged as the top scorer this year, achieving a remarkable total of 362 out of 400 points. It’s worth noting that in the previous year’s UTME, Umeh Kamsiyochukwu secured the highest score with 360 points.
In line with information from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), a significant number of candidates, precisely 1,402,490 out of 1,842,464, fell short of reaching the 200-point mark out of 400.
JAMB’s registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, clarified that the UTME is primarily an assessment for ranking purposes, hence the board’s decision not to disclose the identities of the top-scoring candidates from the recent examination.
Moreover, JAMB cautioned the public against accepting printed result slips as valid proof, emphasizing that the results are not currently available in hard copy format.
