Nigeria Discover Another Oil Well, NNPC Begins Production

It is anticipated that production will increase to 40,000 barrels per day by May 27, 2024.

NNPC Exploration and Production Limited, a subsidiary of NNPC, along with Natural Oilfield Services Limited (NOSL), has announced the successful start of oil production at Oil Mining Lease (OML) 13 in Akwa Ibom State.

According to a statement by NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, on May 12, 2024, production commenced on May 6, 2024, with an initial output of 6,000 barrels per day. It is anticipated that production will increase to 40,000 barrels per day by May 27, 2024.

Sonye said, “The first oil flow from OML 13 is a historic milestone in the partnership between NNPC E&P Ltd and NOSL, highlighting their dedication to driving growth and development in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, which remains a vital component of the nation’s economy.

He also stated that the initial oil extraction from OML 13 is significant as it aids Nigeria’s endeavor to enhance its oil production capacity, vital for meeting domestic energy demands and bolstering the economy.
