Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has expressed concern over the significant debt burden left by the previous Nyesom Wike administration, noting that many commissioned projects lacked full funding.

Governor Fubara made these remarks during the commissioning of the Aleto-Ogale-Ebubu-Eteo Road, also known as Old Bori Road, in Eleme Local Government Area.

The project, commissioned by Abia State Governor Alex Otti, highlighted the issue of contractors seeking payment for incomplete projects. While Governor Fubara did not provide a specific figure for the debt, he stated that pressure from opponents had prompted him to address the matter.

He also announced plans to present a detailed “white paper” on project funding at future commissioning events. Despite challenges, Governor Fubara clarified that his administration has not been in conflict with the federal government, receiving support despite internal interests.

Governor Fubara’s governance approach was praised by Otti, who commended his commitment to serving the people over personal interests. Otti, having served under Peter Odili and Rotimi Amaechi, believes Governor Fubara is well-prepared and focused, immune to political distractions in Rivers State.

Otti emphasised that power comes from God, not from humans. The reconstruction of the Old Bori Road aims to offer an alternative to the deteriorated Eleme section of the East-West road.
