Reps To Probe Daily Increase In Prices Of Commodities

The House of Representatives has directed its Committee on Commerce to probe the daily surge in commodity prices across the nation. This decision came after Jesess Onuakalusi (PDP-Delta) introduced a motion during Thursday’s plenary titled “the Need to Awaken Price Control Board of Nigeria to its Constitutional Responsibilities.”

Onuakalusi highlighted the neglect of the price control board in regulating commodity prices, which has allowed marketers to exploit consumers. He emphasized that while workers’ wages remain stagnant, the cost of living continues to rise.

The motion underscores the board’s failure to curb the arbitrary inflation of prices by businesses, particularly impacting low-income individuals who may resort to desperate measures.

In response, the House tasked the Committee on Commerce with investigating the escalating commodity prices and presenting findings within four weeks for further legislative measures.
