Bayern Munich are reportedly close to finalizing a surprising deal to bring in Vincent Kompany, the current Burnley manager, as a replacement for Thomas Tuchel. Both German and English media outlets, including Bild, Sky, and The Guardian, have stated that Kompany has agreed in principle to join Bayern.
The German club is now in the process of negotiating a compensation package with Burnley, where Kompany is under contract for another four years.
Burnley was recently relegated from the Premier League after just one season in the top flight. Bayern had previously agreed to part ways with Tuchel in February, as they fell behind Bayer Leverkusen in the title race. Despite their interest in other candidates like Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann, and Ralf Rangnick, Bayern was unsuccessful in securing their services. They also tried to keep Tuchel, who guided them to a Champions League semi-final, but failed to reach an agreement with him.
Kompany has prior Bundesliga experience, having played for Hamburg before joining Manchester City. He took over as Burnley manager in 2022 and led them to promotion as second-division champions the following season. However, he couldn’t prevent Burnley’s relegation, as they finished 19th in the 20-team Premier League.
