In a significant step towards addressing the welfare demands of the Ijaw oil-producing communities, the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Commission (DESOPADEC), led by the commissioner representing ijaw on the board of DESOPADEC has reaffirmed its dedication to the economic and social development of its mandate areas.
The commission’s unwavering commitment was highlighted during a crucial meeting aimed at strengthening ties and fostering collaboration with the youth leadership of Ijaw oil producing communities.
Speaking onbehalf of the commission , Hon. Spencer Okpoye ” I bring you warm greetings from the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Commission (DESOPADEC), ably led by Chief Barr John Obukowho Nani, Chairman of the board and Chief Festus Ochonogor, Managing Director/ CEO. I am honored to have this opportunity to address you today regarding your demands for better welfare in your communities, and to ask for more commitment from the Commission.
“Firstly, I want to assure you that DESOPADEC is fully committed to advancing the economic and social development of its mandate areas, and we understand the challenges that have been facing the your areas just like other of our mandate areas, mostly due to the current economic issues bedeviling the country . We have been working tirelessly to ensure that the commission’s interventions in your communities are better targeted, result-driven, and impactful, and we appreciate your cooperation and support in this regard.”
“As you know, the government of Delta State has made the welfare of its people a top priority, and we are taking proactive measures to address the issues facing the commissions mandate areas. As you know DESOPADEC is an intervention commission, and we will always use the available resources at our disposal for the development of our communities, I must use this medium to appreciate the steadfastness of the Chairman and MD/CEO for their relentless efforts to always make sure that the aim and objective of the commission is not forgotten.
“Further more, We want to re-echo to you that we are committed to ensuring that your communities receive their fair share in the commissions distribution of projects”.
“Therefore, I call on all the youths of the Ijaw oil-producing communities to rededicate themselves to the task of building a better future for themselves and their communities. We need your energy, your creativity, and your dedication to help us achieve our shared goals. We need you to be active participants in the development process, to bring your ideas to the table, and to work with us to implement them.”‘
Hon. Okpoye emphasised the commission’s dedication to the progress and prosperity of its mandate areas. He assured the youths that DESOPADEC would not stray from its founding principles and that the current board, led by Chief Barr John Obukowho Nani and Chief Festus Ochonogor is committed to the development of these areas. Hon. Okpoye urged the youths to support the commission and Governor Oborevwori-led government in actualizing the M.O.R.E agenda.
The youths that cut across the Ugulagha, Gbaramatu, Ogbe-ijoh, Egbema, Diebiri, and Iduwini , responded by promising to be law-abiding and pleaded with the commission to try and meet up with the demands they had earlier submitted.
With DESOPADEC prioritising the well-being of the youths in the Oil producing areas of the State, the meeting serves as another milestone in fostering unity and growth in oil-producing communities in Delta State.
