On Monday, the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage submitted its report to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, concluding its assignment.

This was announced in a statement by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations in the SGF’s office.

Imohiosen mentioned that a formal presentation of the report will be made to President Bola Tinubu once the leadership of the Organised Labour, along with representatives from the Government and Organised Private Sector, return from the ongoing International Labour Organisation (ILO) Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.

The SGF expressed gratitude to the Committee’s Chairman, Bukar Goni Aji, and its members for their dedication and sacrifices.

On January 30, 2024, President Tinubu had inaugurated the 37-member Tripartite Committee in line with the Minimum Wage Act of 2019, assigning it the task of recommending a new national minimum wage for both public and private sector workers in Nigeria.

The committee’s submission on Monday came days after recommending ₦62,000 as the new minimum wage, concluding months of deliberations following extensive meetings between the Federal Government, organised labour, and organised private sector.

Despite the committee’s recommendation, the organised labour is proposing ₦250,000, a reduction from its earlier demand of ₦494,000.

Following the report’s submission, President Tinubu is expected to send an executive bill to the National Assembly for legislative action.
