Explosions were reported on Wednesday following a major fire at the refinery situated in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State.
As of the time of this report, there has been no response from the Dangote group regarding the fire incident.
It’s worth recalling that Aliko Dangote, Africa’s wealthiest individual, previously revealed overcoming significant challenges, including strong opposition from local and foreign mafias, in establishing the $19 billion refinery project. Dangote highlighted that these mafias in the oil sector, more formidable than drug cartels, exerted considerable efforts to undermine the refinery’s development. Speaking at the Afreximbank annual meeting and AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum in the Bahamas, Dangote expressed surprise at the intensity of the resistance encountered.
