The peaceful Okpare Olomu Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State was thrown into mourning on Wednesday morning following the gruesome murder of Rev. Isaac Umurie, an Anglican Reverend, by his son, Ufuoma Umurie.
According to reports, the priest was murdered in his sleep, receiving deadly machete blows to his head.
The late Umurie was one of the reverends at St. John’s Anglican Church, Okpare-Olomu.
A vigilante member reported that the incident occurred around 2 a.m., and the mother narrowly escaped.
Sources indicated that this was the second time the suspect had attacked his late father.
Multiple sources in the community suspect that Ufuoma may be mentally unstable.
A gory video of the murder obtained by Waffi TV showed the suspect using a cutlass to mutilate his father’s skull and other parts of his body while he was asleep.
Our source stated that Umurie had been murdered by his son before neighbors could come to the rescue.
The suspect allegedly chased his mother as she attempted to save her husband, but she narrowly escaped unhurt.
“This is the second time Ufuoma is attacking his father. The other time, he beat him, and Okpare-Olomu vigilante held him, but the father pleaded that he should not be taken to the police station. We heard that he is not mentally stable.
“In today’s incident, he hacked the father with a cutlass, burst his skull, and mutilated other parts of his body. The priest has a few years to retire. He was brought closer home because of his retirement before this unfortunate incident,” our source narrated.
The suspect has been taken into custody and handed over to the police at the Otu-Jeremi Divisional Headquarters for prosecution.
SP Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Command, confirmed the incident in a brief text message on Wednesday.
