The Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) and the Niger Delta River Basin Development Authority (NDRBDA) have agreed to collaborate on a food security project aimed at boosting agricultural activities in the region.
This partnership was established during a visit by Prince Ebitimi Amgbare, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NDRBDA, to the office of Dr. Dennis Otuaro, the PAP Administrator, in Abuja yesterday.
During the visit, Dr. Otuaro affirmed PAP’s commitment to supporting the project, named “Food Security is the Real Security.” He emphasized that the Niger Delta’s fertile soil and favorable farming climate are ideal for sustainable food production and entrepreneurship.
A statement signed by Mr. Igoniko Oduma, Special Assistant on Media, quoted Dr. Otuaro as saying that the NDRBDA’s initiative would support the programme’s goals of closing the human capital development gap and promoting sustainable peace, stability, and security in the region and the country as a whole.
He said: “This food project is laudable, and it will complement our mandate to foster sustainable security, stability and peace of the Niger Delta while bridging the human capital development gap and empowerment in the region.
“As a Programme, we have several vocational programmes, including agricultural interventions and entrepreneurship. And we have done a lot, from our records. We will collaborate with you as the pioneer interventionist agency for the development of the Niger Delta. We won’t work at cross-purposes.”
