The President of the Dangote Group has urged the House of Representatives to investigate the quality of diesel and petrol at filling stations. Dangote made this call on Saturday when he hosted the House’s leadership, including Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and his deputy, Benjamin Kalu.
He suggested that the House establish a committee to test the products at various filling stations nationwide. Highlighting the damage caused by substandard products to vehicles and engines, he also called for an investigation into the quality of laboratories used to test imported products, comparing them to the one at the Dangote Refinery.
Dangote, who had earlier given the lawmakers a tour of the refinery, expressed openness to independent testing of his refinery’s products. He believes this would confirm their quality while exposing the issues with products from other sector players.
Recently, the management of the Dangote Refinery has complained about alleged sabotage attempts by international oil companies (IOCs) and the importation of substandard products. In response, the refinery has been accused of pushing for a monopoly.
Dangote dismissed these monopoly claims, stating that the Dangote Group did not receive any special incentives during the refinery’s construction and that there was no effort to prevent other players from operating.
