Price Of Petrol Surges To N1,300/Litre As Depots Experience Shortages

Nigeria continues to face severe fuel shortages, impacting major states including Lagos, Ogun, and parts of Abuja. Many depots for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), or petrol, are depleted, causing extensive queues at fuel stations. Black marketers are capitalizing on the crisis, selling petrol for up to N1,500 per litre, according to Punch Newspaper.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has linked the distribution problems to disruptions in the discharge operations of several vessels. Despite NNPC’s assurances of resolving the issues, the situation has deteriorated further. Motorists are encountering long waits, and prices have soared, with some stations charging N800 per litre and black marketers up to N1,200 per litre.

Depot operators report widespread stock shortages, disrupting the availability of fuel. This has significantly affected both consumers and marketers. Hammed Fashola, the National Vice President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), remains hopeful that normalcy will return once supplies are replenished at the depots.

Across the country, from Lagos and Ogun to Abuja, residents are grappling with high prices and limited fuel availability. The persistent fuel scarcity exacerbates the economic strain on Nigerians, with no immediate solution in sight.
