President Bola Tinubu is currently holding a closed-door meeting with heads of security and paramilitary forces under the National Security Council. The meeting is taking place in the President’s office at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, is leading the service chiefs and other military and paramilitary leaders in the discussion.
This meeting is occurring against the backdrop of nationwide protests over hunger and poor governance.
On Sunday, President Tinubu addressed the nation, urging the organizers of these protests to halt them, particularly as they have turned violent in some states, leading to loss of life and property damage.
The President emphasized that he has heard the protesters’ concerns but warned against allowing opposition figures to exploit the situation to undermine the country’s democracy.
Also present at the meeting are Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, and Inspector General of Police IGP Kayode Egbetokun, among others.
