Most filling stations in Warri and surrounding areas in Delta State have shut down due to the recent fuel price hike.
Some stations are selling fuel for between ₦960 and ₦1100 per liter.
Our correspondent, who has been monitoring the situation since Tuesday, reports that despite the high fuel prices, many stations lack fuel to sell, leading to long queues at those still dispensing. This has caused commercial tricycle operators to increase transportation costs.
Several residents have urged the federal government to intervene and alleviate the economic hardship.
A tricycle operator, Oghenechovwe, told our correspondent that he spent ₦8000 on fuel today but hasn’t made up to ₦4000 or earned any profit.
Another tricycle operator, Ogaga, pointed out that while the fuel issue is one problem, dealing with government touts is another. He added that the daily cost of buying tickets is also burdensome.
