Former Federal Commissioner for Information and South-South, Chief Edwin Clark, has written to Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, urging the immediate arrest and prosecution of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Nyesom Wike.
In a letter read during a press briefing at his Asokoro residence on Thursday, the Ijaw leader asked Egbetokun to take action against Wike for his comments, in which he allegedly threatened to set fire to the states governed by People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leaders.
Wike had made the remarks during the PDP state congress in Port Harcourt on Saturday, warning PDP governors to stay out of Rivers State’s political affairs.
“Let me assure all of you, not while we live will anybody take away the structure of the PDP from us. But let me tell people, I hear some governors who say they will take over the structure and give it back to somebody”.
“I pity those governors because I will put fire in their states. When God has given you peace, you say you don’t want peace – anything you see, you take”, he said.
During the briefing, Clark stated that the former Rivers State governor’s remarks showed “flagrant disrespect to President Bola Tinubu, who appointed him,” calling the comments “unbridled.” He added that Wike’s words amounted to treason, as they could incite violence in the country.
The elder statesman noted that African Action Congress Presidential Candidate, Omoyele Sowore, and #EndBadGovernance protesters had been arrested for similar offenses. He urged the Inspector General of Police to take similar action against the FCT Minister and compel him to retract his statements.
