High Chief Dr. Dennis Otuaro, Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), yesterday, met with a group, Pentaglo Nig limited, dedicated to combating substance abuse among young people in the Niger Delta. The group, led by renowned humanitarian Mr. Seisingha “Soso” Pondi, expressed concern over the alarming rise in drug use among youth in the region.
Mr. Soso highlighted the group’s primary mission: to seek the PAP’s support in establishing a rehabilitation program aimed at helping young people recover from substance addiction and reintegrate into society.
Dr. Otuaro praised the group’s efforts, emphasizing that such initiatives align with the core objectives of the PAP, which include the rehabilitation and reintegration of youth involved in criminal activities. He stressed that nationwide support is essential to address the growing drug crisis, which involves substances like cocaine, heroin, cannabis, Tramadol, and other harmful drugs.
He warned that failure to act swiftly could result in further devastation of young lives, particularly in the Niger Delta, where youth are the future of the region and the country. Dr. Otuaro assured the group of the PAP’s commitment to supporting their cause, noting that addressing the youth drug culture is crucial to preventing mental health challenges and restoring purpose to affected individuals.
