PANDEF Urges Tinubu To Take Action Against Coastal Flooding

The Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), led by Chief Edwin Clark, has urged President Bola Tinubu to instruct relevant Federal Ministries and Agencies to act swiftly to protect coastal states from imminent flooding.

In a statement by National Secretary Dr. Alfred Mulade, PANDEF highlighted the critical nature of the situation, emphasising that time is of the essence to avert catastrophic outcomes.

The looming disaster threatens millions in vulnerable areas, including Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, Delta, and Edo states. PANDEF called for proactive measures such as:

  • Strengthening and upgrading flood defenses and embankments.
  • Evacuating residents from high-risk zones.
  • Rapid deployment of emergency relief supplies.
  • Comprehensive support for affected communities, including rehabilitation and reconstruction.
  • Construction of shelters on elevated ground for displaced individuals.

PANDEF stressed that the Federal Government must address the situation with the highest urgency to safeguard the lives of those at risk.
