The Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) revealed on Thursday that at least 60 students on its scholarship program earned first-class degrees in various competitive disciplines from 2016 to 2023 across partnering universities.
This was announced by the PAP Head of Education, Dr. Charles Ariye, in a statement.
According to Ariye, the students excelled in disciplines such as electrical/electronics engineering, computer science, civil engineering, accounting, law, petroleum engineering, physics, international relations, biochemistry, and more.
His commendation follows the recent achievement of Kemien Egbekun, a PAP scholar, who graduated with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.77 (first class) in Law from Michael and Cecilia Ibru University, Delta State. Two other PAP-sponsored students at the same institution, Oladapo Damilola and Toikumo Prosper, also graduated with second-class upper-division degrees in Law.
The trio were part of the university’s 6th convocation ceremony held on September 6, 2024.
Ariye noted that although the 2024 academic scorecard from partnering institutions is still pending, the accomplishments of Egbekun and her peers add to the growing list of PAP scholars achieving outstanding academic results.
Meanwhile, the Administrator of the PAP, Dr. Dennis Otuaro, expressed his delight with the academic success of the scholarship recipients. Speaking in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Igoniko Oduma, Otuaro praised the achievements of the Arogbo-Ijaw-born Egbekun and others.
Otuaro highlighted the PAP scholars’ academic excellence as a testament to the program’s role in advancing human capital development in the Niger Delta. He credited the continuous support from President Bola Tinubu, which aligns with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda for peace, stability, and sustainable development in the region.
He stated, “We are elated by the fantastic academic performances of the Presidential Amnesty Programme scholarship scheme students. Achieving such impressive grades as first-class and second-class upper division is no mean academic feat.
“These achievements reinforce the fact that the PAP is on the right track implementing its mandate. We are delighted and encouraged by this fact, and are taking appropriate steps to deepen efforts at achieving more in educational and vocational initiatives.
“We must thank President Bola Tinubu for his strong support for the programme and the undying love he has for the people of the Niger Delta through his Renewed Hope Agenda. He is committed to sustainable peace, stability, and development in the region. He needs to be appreciated and encouraged also.”
