Despite the efforts of certain fifth columnists, the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, has clarified the tenure of the current Governing Board, affirming that members were appointed for a four-year term.
Speaking at a press conference at the NDDC headquarters in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Ogbuku refuted claims that his tenure as Managing Director would end this year, labeling such insinuations as false and baseless.
He stated that subject to the provision of section 4 of the NDDC Establishment Act, “a member of the board other than ex-efficio member, shall hold office for a term of four years at the first instance and may be reappointed for a further term of four years and no more.”Â
Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), noted that those advocating for the early termination of the NDDC Board’s tenure are displeased with the Board’s unity in executing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mandate for the Niger Delta. He expressed concern that, despite the NDDC’s commitment to delivering quality projects and programs, some individuals with selfish interests are attempting to revert the commission to a period of instability and underperformance.
Ogbuku emphasized that the Board and Management would not be distracted from their mission of shifting from “Transactions to Transformation.” He urged those pushing for leadership changes to be patient, reminding them that President Tinubu had reappointed him for another four-year term. He assured that more community-focused projects and programs would soon be unveiled.
Ogbuku also stated that once the 2024 NDDC budget is approved, efforts to complete legacy projects will accelerate. He explained that the budget includes plans to raise N1 trillion from development and commercial banks to complete critical projects across the Niger Delta, including regional roads, bridges, electricity infrastructure, schools, hospitals, and shore reclamation and protection projects.
