The presidency has clarified that President Bola Tinubu has not requested Yemi Cardoso to step down as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, issued a statement refuting claims that Tinubu had ordered Cardoso’s resignation.
On Tuesday, Onanuga took to his official X account to label the reports as falsehoods.
“It’s all lies. President Tinubu has not asked Yemi Cardoso to resign,” Onanuga said.
The report claimed that President Tinubu instructed Cardoso to resign before leaving for China, even though prominent Yoruba leaders had tried to retain him in his role.
It’s worth noting that the CBN governor faced criticism for his failure to tackle the ongoing economic issues and stabilize the Naira.
