Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has expressed his support for the resolution by opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors to remove acting National Chairman Umar Damagum.
The PDP Governors’ Forum stated that this move is necessary to allow for a North Central member to assume the role, in line with the party’s constitution. They argued that a North Central representative should have replaced former national chairman Iyorchia Ayu, who was dismissed in 2022. This decision has intensified the leadership crisis within the party, as some governors have voiced their backing for Damagum.
In a statement released on Thursday by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke affirmed, “I stand by the resolution of the PDP Governors’ Forum, of which I am an integral part.”
“I stand by the Constitution of our great party which clearly spelt out the succession procedure in case of the exit of an elected chairman.
“Our party must adhere to its Constitution at this critical time and at all times. That is the way to build a responsible political party”, he said.
