The Federal Government and the Labour Union have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the new ₦70,000 minimum wage.
A statement released Friday by the Office of the Head of Civil Service, and signed by Eno Olotu, Head of Information and Public Relations, confirmed that the salary committee has agreed to implement the new wage starting from July 29, 2024.
This agreement was part of the resolutions reached during the committee’s meeting held in Abuja on Friday.
The statement also noted that the committee recommended the continuation of the wage award, which had been previously discontinued by the government, until July 28, 2024.
Led by the Head of Civil Service, Didi Walson-Jack, the committee emphasized that the government took the country’s economic situation into consideration in making its decisions.
Speaking after the signing, Walson-Jack who doubled as Chairman of the Committee, commended members for the painstaking effort put in the task assigned.
The HCSF said, “Both the Trade Union and the Government sides have agreed on the Consequential Adjustments in Salaries arising from the new minimum wage of N70,000.
She further revealed that all members reviewed the MOU and signed the documents, concluding the process by handing over copies to representatives from both parties.
She described this negotiation as the shortest and most peaceful to date, noting that the signed MOU would now be submitted to the Federal Government for further action.
In his remarks, Comrade Benjamin Anthony, National Chairman of the Joint Negotiating Council representing the Trade Union, praised the Head of Civil Service and expressed satisfaction with the committee’s efforts.
