NiMet Forecasts 3-Day Thunderstorm From Monday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has announced a forecast of thunderstorms from Monday to Wednesday across the country.

In a weather outlook released in Abuja on Sunday, NiMet indicated that thunderstorms are likely on Monday in parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, and Borno states. Throughout the day, thunderstorms are also expected in Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Taraba, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Sokoto states. In the morning, areas in the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, Plateau, and Kwara states may experience thunderstorms.

Isolated thunderstorms are predicted for the afternoon and evening in parts of Kwara, the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Benue, and Kogi states. Additionally, rain is anticipated in the southwest inland, particularly in Oyo, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, and Ogun states, extending to coastal areas including Lagos, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa states.

Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected in Enugu, Edo, Ebonyi, Ondo, Abia, Osun, Imo, Ekiti, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, and Lagos states.

On Tuesday morning, isolated thunderstorms are expected in Taraba, Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, Sokoto, and Zamfara states, with further thunderstorms anticipated in Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Bauchi, Taraba, Gombe, and Adamawa later. The Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Benue, and Nasarawa are also forecasted to see thunderstorms in the morning, continuing into the day.

Morning rains are expected in Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Imo, Lagos, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Rivers, while the rest of the South will likely remain cloudy. Later, thunderstorms may develop in Oyo, Ekiti, Ogun, Ondo, Imo, Edo, Delta, Lagos, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Rivers states.

On Wednesday, NiMet predicts morning thunderstorms in Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Borno, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Kebbi. Isolated thunderstorms are expected in Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba, Kaduna, Kano, and Katsina states, with thunderstorms likely in Niger and Kwara, while the rest of the North Central states will be cloudy.

Later in the day, thunderstorms are forecasted in the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Nasarawa, and Benue states. Rains are expected in Cross River, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom in the morning, with cloudy skies over the remaining southern states. Thunderstorms are anticipated later over most parts of Imo, Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ekiti, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Edo, and Delta states.

NiMet has urged residents to avoid flood-prone areas due to the high likelihood of urban flooding in major cities caused by heavy rainfall. It also cautioned that strong winds may precede the storms and recommended that the public adhere to safety advisories from relevant authorities. Airline operators are advised to consult updated weather reports from NiMet for effective planning.
