Dr. Dennis Burutu Otuaro, the Special Adviser to the President on the Niger Delta and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, met with traditional rulers in Warri, Delta State, on Monday.
The meeting aimed to express gratitude for their support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and to update them on ongoing reforms within the amnesty program.
Otuaro emphasized the importance of briefing the traditional rulers, whom he described as key stakeholders, on the reforms introduced by the current administration. He conveyed greetings from President Tinubu and the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, acknowledging the support of the Niger Delta traditional rulers for the administration.
The meeting was part of a broader Niger Delta stakeholders’ engagement, which included traditional rulers, opinion leaders, women’s groups, youth organizations, community leaders, elders, and camp leaders. Otuaro stated that the purpose was to ensure the continuation of peace in the region.
He expressed special appreciation to the traditional rulers for their support so far and urged them to continue backing the administration. Otuaro highlighted various aspects of the amnesty program, including educational scholarships, vocational training, and grant/loan opportunities.
He reiterated that the involvement of traditional rulers and other interest groups is crucial to the program’s success. The government is working to expand the program beyond the current 30,000 delegates to include more people, especially traditional rulers, women’s groups, elders, and youth organizations as beneficiaries.
