The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) announced on Tuesday that Nigeria’s unemployment rate rose to 5.3% in the first quarter (Q1) of 2024, up from 5% in the third quarter (Q3) of 2023, according to its latest report.

The ratio, which reflects the percentage of the employed working-age population, dropped to 73.2%, down from 75.6% in the third quarter of 2023.
“In Q1 2024, 73.2% of Nigeria’s working-age population was employed, down from 75.6% in Q3 2023,” NBS said.
