Niger Delta Stakeholders Pledge Peace, Growth under Otuaro’s Leadership

The Expanded Niger Delta Stakeholders meeting concluded on Friday with a strong commitment to fostering peace and economic growth in the region. High Chief Dr. Dennis Burutu Otuaro, the Administrator, led discussions alongside youth and leaders from various Delta communities.

During the meeting, attendees expressed deep gratitude to Dr. Otuaro for his accessibility and dedication to serving the people, contrasting his approach with that of previous leaders. They voiced concerns about the need for a more inclusive scholarship programme under the Amnesty initiative, urging that it cater to all, including the children of fallen freedom fighters and those seeking advanced degrees.

Hon. Dembo-Denbofa Oweikpodo emphasised the importance of prioritizing human capital development, while Barr. Emperor Joshep, representing the Human Rights community, called for a comprehensive peace and educational programme. High Chief Yusuf Eregbene of Akugbene Kingdom highlighted that addressing underdevelopment is crucial for lasting solutions.

In response to these concerns, Dr. Otuaro assured participants of his commitment to equitable benefits from the programmes, including expanded scholarships and leadership training. He outlined plans for “On the Job Training” to ensure practical application of skills learned. Dr. Otuaro also confirmed that 58 public schools are already beneficiaries of scholarship programs and expressed his intention to include former freedom fighters who have yet to disarm.

As the meeting concluded, Elder T.K. Ogorigba urged participants to avoid the upcoming October 1st protest, reminding them of its past negative impacts on investment in the region. He praised Dr. Otuaro’s efforts and assured him of the community’s solidarity.

The event ended with a renewed pledge for unity and collaboration among the stakeholders, marking a hopeful step towards a prosperous Niger Delta.
