In response to the House of Representatives’ resolution to investigate bribery allegations against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Joint Committees have summoned the commission’s chairman, Ola Olukoyode.
In a letter dated September 27, 2024, the committee requested that the EFCC Chairman and the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service, along with all officers implicated in the allegation, appear on Monday, September 30.
The bribery allegations involve a viral voice recording featuring Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, a crossdresser who was sentenced earlier this year to six months in prison for naira abuse. The conversation suggests that Bobrisky allegedly paid N15 million to the EFCC to have money laundering charges dropped and that he stayed in a VIP facility instead of a prison.
The House Committee has also invited Bobrisky and social media influencer Martins Otse, also known as Very Dark Man, who shared the voice recording on social media.
