The inaugural edition of the Jada Tennis Tournament (JTT) took place on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the Ogunu Tennis Club in Warri, Delta State. Spencer Umoren Aniekan emerged as the overall champion.
In the men’s category, Aniekan won the top prize of a refrigerator, defeating Okobiebi Esiri, who received a sound system. Jackson Junior secured third place with a microwave, followed by George Emmanuel (toaster), Charles Onwuka (electric kettle), and Tonwe Kelvin (solar light).
In the women’s category, Precious Ahwin claimed the championship, winning a washing machine after beating Akata Princess, who took home a gas cooker. Akin Ejoke finished third with a blender, followed by Adenike Akinyemi (toaster), Becca Pirita (electric kettle), and Annabel Ese (solar light).
Dr. Charles Ukeagu, sponsor of the tournament, said he was inspired by his daughter Jada, who is preparing to join the tennis club, and as a way to give back to the club that has accommodated him. Dr. Ukeagu, who joined the Ogunu Tennis Club last year, noted that tennis serves as a platform not only for recreation but also for networking with reputable individuals, helping to make meaningful societal contributions.
In addition to the players’ awards, Ukeagu mentioned that ten club members who had significantly contributed to the growth of the Ogunu Tennis Club section were also recognized.
Mr. Ben Ifeta, Captain of the Tennis Section of Ogunu Golf Resort, praised Dr. Ukeagu for his sponsorship, adding that the club has been active since Shell BP’s establishment in Ogunu.
