The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted thunderstorms across the country from Thursday to Saturday.
In its weather outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja, NiMet anticipated thunderstorms in parts of Adamawa, Taraba, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Kaduna States during the morning hours on Wednesday.
Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected in Bauchi, Adamawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Taraba, Yobe, Zamfara, Borno, and Kebbi states. In the North Central region, thunderstorms are also forecasted for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Niger, Nasarawa, and Benue States in the morning, with additional storms anticipated in the afternoon over the FCT, Niger, Kogi, Kwara, Benue, Plateau, and Nasarawa states.
In the southern region, thunderstorms may occur in parts of Ondo, Ebonyi, Edo, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states during the morning hours, with further storms expected later in the day across the same areas.
On Thursday morning, thunderstorms are predicted in parts of Adamawa, Taraba, and Kebbi States, with later storms in Kaduna, Adamawa, Katsina, Kebbi, Taraba, Sokoto, and Zamfara states. The North Central region should see morning thunderstorms in the FCT, Niger, Kogi, Kwara, Benue, and Nasarawa states, with more storms expected in the afternoon and evening in the same areas.
In the southern region on Thursday morning, thunderstorms are expected in Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states, with the possibility of thunderstorms later in the day across the entire region.
For Friday morning, thunderstorms are anticipated in parts of Zamfara, Sokoto, and Kebbi States, followed by patches of clouds and intervals of sunshine in the northern region later in the day. The North Central region should expect morning thunderstorms in Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, and the FCT, with additional storms later in the day.
The southern region may see thunderstorms in parts of Ondo, Osun, Ogun, Edo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers during the morning hours.
NiMet warned of a high likelihood of urban flooding in major cities due to heavy rains and advised residents to stay away from flood-prone areas, as strong winds may precede the thunderstorms. The agency also urged airline operators to obtain updated weather reports and forecasts from NiMet for effective operational planning.
