NNPCL Delivers 48.6m Barrels Of Crude To Dangote Refinery

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has supplied a total of 48.6 million barrels of crude oil to Dangote Petroleum Refinery over the past ten months, according to investigations by Vanguard.

Official data reviewed by Vanguard indicates that 3.4 million barrels were delivered in December 2023, followed by 3.5 million barrels in February 2024. Additional deliveries included 3.3 million barrels in March, another 3.3 million in April, 3.0 million in May, 5.1 million in June, 5.1 million in July, 4.8 million in August, and 5.6 million in September 2024. So far, October 2024 deliveries have already reached 11.7 million barrels.

However, sources close to the Dangote Refinery note that these supply volumes remain low compared to the refinery’s installed capacity of 650,000 barrels per day.

The NNPCL has not yet disclosed the crude oil needs for Nigeria’s refineries, including Dangote, for the last quarter of 2024 (October–December). However, in the second quarter (Q2 2024), the government estimated the requirements for all Nigerian refineries, including Dangote, at 597,700 barrels per day, reflecting an increase of 114,700 barrels per day from the 483,000 barrels per day needed in the first half of the year.

This Q2 2024 estimate suggests that NNPCL may have projected Dangote Refinery’s crude oil needs at less than 50% of its full production capacity.
