The Delta State House of Assembly on Tuesday confirmed the appointment of Mr. Otto Aghoghophia as the substantive Clerk of the Legislature.
The confirmation came after a motion was moved by the Majority Leader, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, seconded by the Minority Leader, Hon. Edafe Emakpor, and adopted during the House plenary, presided over by Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor.
Aghoghophia, a lawyer, was appointed Deputy Clerk in March 2017 and became Acting Clerk in June 2023 after the former Clerk, Mrs. Lyna Ocholor, was appointed Principal Secretary to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
In a related development, the House also confirmed Mr. Smart Edoge as Deputy Clerk. Until his appointment, Edoge was the head of the Legal Department in the State Legislature.
Speaker Guwor congratulated both appointees, urging them to apply their extensive experience in their new roles.
Aghoghophia’s confirmation was met with widespread celebration from the political class and the Delta State chapter of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN). Supporters praised him as hardworking and deserving of the role, noting his seven years of committed service as Deputy Clerk.
They expressed confidence that his confirmation as substantive Clerk would enhance his expertise in legislative affairs and bolster staff welfare initiatives.
