A bill proposing the creation of Ogoja State passed its second reading in the House of Representatives on Thursday. The bill, co-sponsored by Godwin Offiono and three others, aims to amend the 1999 Constitution to add a new state in the South-south region.
Presenting the bill, Offiono emphasized that its foundation lies in promoting equity. If enacted, the new state would raise the total number of states in the South-south to seven.
The bill passed without opposition and has been referred to the House Committee on Constitution Review for further consideration.
