The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has announced that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) will receive 50 new aircraft between December 2024 and 2026.
He disclosed this during the second biannual meeting with Branch Chiefs and Air Officers Commanding, held Thursday in Abuja.
Abubakar noted that NAF had successfully added 12 aircraft to its fleet in the past year, marking a significant achievement not seen in a long time. He described this as an exciting period, requiring innovation, resilience, and commitment.
He urged officers and personnel to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and loyalty in supporting NAF’s mission.
“A few months ago, we celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Nigerian Air Force, which ushered us into a golden era of transformation and evolution.
“Over the past years, we have successfully inducted 12 aircraft into our inventory, and God willing, we shall take delivery of 50 brand new aircraft between December this year and 2026.
“This is a remarkable achievement that we have not witnessed in a very long time. Indeed, these are exciting times that demand innovative thinking, resilience, and dedication.
“I am confident that, under your leadership, the men and women under your commands will rise to the occasion and excel in all tasks set before them,” he said.
Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar stated that during the last meeting with Branch Chiefs and Air Officers Commanding (AOCs) in June, several key issues were discussed, leading to various resolutions and recommendations.
He noted that some of these resolutions have already been implemented, including the creation of two new staff branches: the Civil-Military Relations Branch and the NAF Transformation and Innovation Branch.
Abubakar explained that the current meeting would provide an opportunity to thoroughly assess progress, address any shortcomings, adjust strategies, and reinforce their collective focus on achieving set objectives. He emphasized that decisions made at the forum must be based on sound judgment and a clear understanding of their goals.
