The Delta Ijaw People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Support Group, a coalition representing over 30 Ijaw support groups within the party, recently paid a courtesy visit to Hon. Spencer Okpoye, the Commissioner representing the Ijaw ethnic nationality on the board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC).
The visit, led by the group’s Chairman, Comrade Austin Okporu, aimed to strengthen ties with the commissioner and affirm the group’s unwavering commitment to the party.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Comr. Okporu emphasized that the Delta Ijaw PDP Support Group has been instrumental in supporting the party’s recent electoral success, with representation cutting across all Ijaw local government areas. He noted that their visit was intended to gain first-hand insights into the commissioner’s activities and to reassure him of the group’s continued support. According to Okporu, the group is satisfied with the commissioner’s leadership style, describing it as inclusive and transparent, with an open-door policy that ensures no form of discrimination.
Okporu further stated that the group stands firmly behind the M.O.R.E. Agenda of His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, which seeks to promote sustainable development in the state. He also expressed appreciation to the governor for establishing a new ministry dedicated to addressing the needs of the riverine communities, assuring that the support group would continue to protect and uphold the interests of the PDP.
In his response, Hon. Spencer Okpoye expressed gratitude to the Delta Ijaw PDP Support Group for their visit and show of solidarity. He assured the delegation that their support serves as a motivation for him to further enhance his performance. Okpoye reaffirmed Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to the Ijaw ethnic nationality, highlighting the governor’s respect and affection for the Ijaw people. He promised to continue engaging with the group and other key stakeholders in his mandate area to ensure that their interests are well-represented.
The visit underscores the continued efforts by the Delta State PDP to foster unity and inclusivity within the party, as well as to promote the development of oil-producing communities in the state.
