Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) have announced a price increase for various electricity meter models, marking the second hike in four months.
According to the DisCos, the price of a single-phase meter has jumped from around N117,000 to up to N149,800, reflecting a 28.03% rise, or an additional N32,800, depending on the distribution company and meter vendor. The updated prices, posted yesterday on the DisCos’ official X handle, are set to take effect on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
This increase follows the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission’s (NERC) move to deregulate meter asset providers and comes after a similar price rise in August 2024, intensifying concerns about affordability and access for electricity consumers.
Analysis shows that meter prices vary among DisCos based on vendor and meter type (single-phase or three-phase):
- Eko DisCo: Single-phase meters priced between N135,987.5 and N161,035; three-phase meters range from N226,600 to N266,600.
- Ibadan DisCo: Single-phase meters range from N130,998 to N142,548; three-phase meters from N226,556.25 to N232,008.
