Kylian Mbappe has been left out of France’s squad for their UEFA Nations League games against Israel and Italy, as coach Didier Deschamps omitted the Real Madrid star when announcing the roster on Thursday.
This marks the second consecutive squad that the France captain has missed, following his absence from October’s games against Israel and Belgium. Although Mbappe was rested last month due to a minor thigh injury from club play, his swift return to action for Real Madrid stirred controversy as he was fit before France’s matches began.
Mbappe missed France’s 4-1 win over Israel in Budapest and the 2-1 victory in Belgium, opting to spend time in Stockholm with his entourage instead. During this trip, Swedish media reported that he was under investigation for an alleged rape.
Mbappe dismissed the reports as “fake news,” and his lawyer announced plans to pursue legal action for libel. While a Swedish prosecutor confirmed an investigation, they did not mention Mbappe by name.
Since then, the former Paris Saint-Germain star has made four appearances for Real Madrid, scoring once, though his form remains below his usual high standard.
