The Nigerian government, led by President Bola Tinubu, has pledged that citizens will receive at least 20 hours of daily electricity by 2027.
However, achieving this goal depends on increased investment in the oil and gas sector.
This announcement was made by the President’s Special Adviser on Energy, Olu Verheijen, during Energy Week in Cape Town, South Africa. The statement was released on Thursday by the State House Director of Information and Publicity, Abiodun Oladunjoye.
“By 2027, Nigeria aims to ensure 20 hours of electricity daily for consumers in urban areas and industrial hubs,” Verheijen said.
The statement is titled, ‘At African Energy Week in Cape Town, Olu Verheijen Invites Global Players to Invest in Nigeria’s Energy Sector.’
This promise comes as Nigeria’s national power grid continues to collapse, causing widespread blackouts across the country.
On Thursday morning, Waffi TV detailed how numerous Nigerian households were once again left in darkness following the grid’s second collapse in three days.
