Port Harcourt Refinery: NNPC Clears Air On Truck-Out Of 3-Year-Old Petroleum Products

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has dismissed allegations made by Timothy Mgbere, Secretary of the Alesa community stakeholders, regarding operations at the Port Harcourt Refinery.

Speaking on Arise Television on Thursday, Mgbere alleged that recent refining activities and the truck-out of petroleum products were deceptive, claiming that the products were from old stock rather than freshly refined.

In a Friday statement, NNPCL spokesperson Olufemi Soneye labeled Mgbere’s remarks a “crass display of ignorance” and emphasized the need to correct the misinformation to prevent public confusion.

Soneye clarified that the two refineries operate as an integrated system, sharing resources like power, storage tanks, and a terminal for product loading.

NNPCL also highlighted contradictions in Mgbere’s claims, questioning how “old stock” could be moved if the older refinery was non-functional, as he suggested.

“There are a number of other wild claims made by the man, one of which was that the refinery was producing 1.4 million barrels per day. The nameplate capacity of the refinery is 60,000 barrels of oil per day. It is currently producing 90 percent throughput, which translates to straight-run gasoline (Naptha) belnded into 1.4 million litres of PMS, aside from other products like diesel and kerosene.

“We call on the general public to disregard the claims of the self-acclaimed ‘community person’ which are obviously borne out of sheer mischief and blatant display of ignorance,” the statement added.
