Chairman of the Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Mrs. Marilyn Okowa-Daramola, has explained why the House raised the 2025 State Budget from N936.1 billion to N979.2 billion, emphasising the need for enhanced infrastructural development across the state.
Speaking to journalists after the passage of the Appropriation Bill, Okowa-Daramola expressed confidence that Deltans would soon see more physical infrastructure projects. She highlighted that the House prioritized increasing capital expenditure in alignment with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s focus on development.
Representing Ika North East Constituency, Okowa-Daramola pointed out that the N43.1 billion increase reflects a 7.34 percent rise in the originally proposed capital expenditure budget submitted by Governor Oborevwori. Additionally, she revealed a minor adjustment to the recurrent expenditure, which was increased by N50 million, from N348.717 billion to N348.767 billion, representing a 0.014 percent increase.
She further emphasized that the boost in capital expenditure was specifically aimed at advancing infrastructure in all three senatorial districts of the state. Okowa-Daramola affirmed that Governor Oborevwori is committed to significant infrastructure development, and the State Assembly is fully supportive of his efforts to succeed.
She said: “This amendment was mostly done in the economic sector where you have both ministries of rural and urban roads to cater for, and you know the importance of more roads in the state. It boost economic development.
“We also had amendment in riverine infrastructure because we saw the need to for more connectivity for those in the riverine areas of the State”.
